Morning Check-In: 3/25/24

I think I have decided that I won’t be writing a journal entry here on Saturdays or Sundays. There’s too much going on, having Keston home changes my routine, and… well, I don’t want to “work” on weekends if I don’t have to, if that makes sense.

This weekend was fun though. We went to the symphony with my family. They were performing Danny Elfman’s new “Percussion Concerto” that he composed without the bounds of movie story. His unique style was present throughout, little pieces here and there took me to the many movies he has composed, but overall it was new and fun. Colin Currie, the solo percussionist performing with the symphony, did an excellent job.

My brother and sister and I glimpsed our old music teacher from middle school. We didn’t get the chance to say hi, but it was fun to reminisce together as siblings.

Yesterday we had church in the morning, I taught a successful 20 minute lesson for the five and six year olds, and then we hung out at home. I got some dishes done, took a nap, and even cooked a real dinner! It was from the recipe book I got from the library last week. Chicken, carrots, and potatoes tossed with ranch seasoning, garlic, and olive oil then baked in the oven. The veggies didn’t get as soft as I would have liked, but the chicken was perfect! I will definitely save that recipe for later and see if I can master the veggies for it.

One of the streamers I watch regularly, CoffeeQuills, did a 12 hour stream starting last night. They live in Japan, so 10 am start time for them was at 7 pm for me. I didn’t care, I was determined to stay up as long as possible to write with them. I miss writing, I haven’t done much of it lately. I got some character building done, working on my Snowflake Method outline using my favorite plotting tool: Plottr (affiliate link). I did not make it the full twelve hours though. I made it to 10:20. Then I went to bed determined to wake up early (Keston gets up at 4:30 for work) to catch the last few hours.

Then, maybe half an hour after I went to bed, Fletcher woke up screaming with a super stuffy nose and I can only assume body aches. It took me probably an hour, an extra bottle, and a hot shower with some snuggles to finally get him to take some medicine and go back to bed without screaming more. Poor bug. After that I was wide awake for a while, so I popped back into Coffee’s stream for a few minutes until I was sure Fletcher was going to sleep and I felt tired enough again.

I did in fact wake up with Keston this morning. Well, I woke up with him, then drifted off, then he nudged me back awake because I asked him too. Unfortunately, Coffee only ended up streaming for 6 hours, so they were done before I woke up. So I saw my hubby off to work and crawled back into bed.

Wish me luck today with a sick bug. I love you all.
